What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a financial co-operative which offers safe savings account and low-cost loans to members. Knowsley Mutual Credit Union is Authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority, and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority FRN 213483 (the UK's financial services regulators) and Credit Union's serve a particular geographical area, called a 'common bond' and in our case it is Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton & West Lancashire.

In a credit union, members pool their savings to lend to one another and income generated helps to run the credit union. The small amount of income raised by loans pays for credit union overheads and any surplus may be paid out as a dividend to members who have savings.
